When I told my mother about starting work at a museum and had told her a lot about archaeology and geology, she tried to bond with me through talking about crystals.
Apparently, she has those that clean the air, and even those that reorganize the water molecules after they were poured into the glass with too much pressure (not kidding here), and well – at least she is trying to bond with me.
Nevertheless, this made me feel the strong need to clarify once and for all that these things have nothing to do with what witching means to me.
Although, I keep a rose quartz at my desk, so maybe let’s look at that first.
Yes, I keep it right next to an old, cleaned and colorful printed to-go-cup that reminds of a nice trip I took many years ago.
So, why the quartz?
The answer simply is that my preschool teacher also had one of those and used to hand it around every Monday morning when we were sitting in a circle, and who held it was supposed to tell about their weekend. So, when we were older and had to change to other schools, I got a rose quartz from my grandparents, against feeling homesick.
That is my reason for keeping a rose quartz on my desk.
It has a lot of meaning to me.
It makes me feel better while studying or working.
It just does not need an extra layer of meaning.
And definitely not one that is not scientifically proven and more than questionable.
It’s the same with the stars.
When I was taking my pandemic walks, finding constellations on the night sky always gave me a lot of hope and stability. Especially always finding the same ones with the start of the same seasons, since I did not switch hemispheres, or even continents during that time. In spring, the big bear was easy to spot on my northern field, and Cassiopeia as well, leading easily to the northern star. They do not fully disappear, but in the colder season, Orion always catches my attention. As well as in 2020 Jupiter and Saturn in their constellation did.
But what is the meaning of this? Why look at the stars?
I simply like it.
I find the wide night sky inspiring, and spotting the regularities and understanding what I am seeing where in there is calming. I do not believe in, and I in fact know that stars and planets in the sky have no power over me and my fate here and earth.
I simply enjoy that the universe is there.
And I don’t need to add an extra layer of meaning to it.
My spell is taking a deep breath, wearing a color that matches the ring on my finger, enjoying a coffee and being able to think.
Finding these calm little moments and keeping them alive is my magic in things.

Just a haunted girl scaring her friends – Writing update!
Intrigued. And quite as bit terrified. Those were the exact same words I got as feedback from my friends whom I’d recently handed the first pages of the witching novel to. Seems like I’ve accomplished my task, right? I’m the haunted girl scaring all her friends! No, but really. It felt as if I was understood through…
Tale about the softest secret
This tale is about a girl I once knew. This girl could not go anywhere without her lovely white shoes. Made of cotton, their rim did not reach her ankles, giving away how thin they were. Their soles were so slim, she felt the earth with every step. Those shoes she needed so dearly were…
I agree. No extra layer needed; the universe is magic enough, of itself.
