How are we human?

How am I to be
my own Melody
No one ever hears
That ran out of breath
Never found ears?

How am I to be
My own imagery
Forgotten by light
That will never be seen
Never found eyes?

How am I to know
That I still have skin
When I grow
Without touch
Into the cold?

How am I to know
How to laugh
When I’m left with a hole
For thoughts to fall,
Spiral into?

How are we human
All on our own
Without being heard
In the cold
Without being seen
Facing a hole
Without being caught
Growing alone
With nothing to know?
We’re not.
